Overview

A Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System monitors that the officer of the watch is still active, and escalates in stages — a visual prompt, then an audible alarm on the bridge, then a call to the backup officer and finally to the rest of the crew — if the watchkeeper does not respond within the set time. To reset the timer the watchkeeper has to make a deliberate action, and this panel is that reset point away from the main unit: on a bridge wing, at the chart table or wherever the officer actually stands. Fitting reset panels at the working positions is what makes a BNWAS installation practical rather than an irritation, and it is part of a SOLAS-compliant fit.
